For the BJP, Amravati is one of the most difficult seats in Maharashtra. The saffron party has not won a single Lok Sabha election from this constituency. The BJP has fielded Rana, a current MP. Previously, when she ran as an independent in the 2019 elections, backed by parties such as the Congress and the NCP, her campaign platform was completely anti-BJP and even anti-Modi. However, state politics has undergone tectonic shifts in the previous five months, to which Rana has not been immune. The actor-turned-politician, once known for her anti-BJP stance, which helped her win Amravati, now confronts a daunting struggle in keeping her seat. The Muslim and Dalit populations in the constituency continue to be decisive factors, which is the fundamental reason why the BJP has not been able to win Amravati even once. Of the eighteen lakh voters in Amravati, about two lakh belong to the Muslim group, while over fifty thousand fall under the general category. The overwhelming support of Muslims for Rana’s candidacy in the last election was what made her victory certain. However, it is a truth that Muslims are unwilling to vote for the BJP and, consequently, for Rana in this election.
