IPL 2024: How should rookie pacer Mayank Yadav’s progress be tracked? Legendary West Indies bowler shares his views

Since making his IPL debut this year for Lucknow Super Giants, tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav has emerged as a new sensation and a hot topic among cricket fans and experts across the world. Now, legendary West Indies pacer Ian Bishop has shared his views on the special talent and how the Indian team or cricket administrators should fast track the progress of Yadav.

The 21-year-old lanky bowler became the toast of the nation after his fiery spell in the debut game, when he fired a delivery at 155.8 km/h (96 mph) and earned the man-of-the-match award.

According to Bishop, who is also a commentator in the IPL 2024, Mayank is a special talent, and BCCI should have a plan to ensure Speedester’s entry into Team India.

“Been discussing this idea privately with a colleague for the past week. Re the “special” talent of Mayank Yadav. Its an opportune time in cricket to explore the test of assigning a personal S & C trainer, & medical expertise year round to monitor him for the next 2 years,” Bishop shared his view on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After his sensational debut, Yadav maintained the momentum in the next game too and bowled faster by hitting a 156.7 km/h (96 mph) mark – the fastest delivery of 2024 IPL so far. He also won back-to-back man-of-the-match award with his devastating spell against Royal Challengers Bangalore – in his second game.

Yadav caught the attention of many past greats, including Ian Bishop, who called him a “child of the wind”.Meanwhile, former South African legendary pacer Dale Steyn was all praise for Yadav. Steyn shared on X, formerly Twitter “Mayank Yadav where have you been hiding!” In a tweet after his second game, Steyn simply wrote: “That’s a serious ball! #PACE”. Interestingly, Yadav has said that he considers Steyn his only idol.
