PRESS RELEASE

Va. polls have closed for Super Tuesday primaries

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Polls have officially closed for the 2024 presidential primaries.

While President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump are considered likely to win, results are still coming in following the 7 p.m. poll closure — even then, anyone remaining in line will still be allowed to vote.

Virginia is one of over a dozen states and one territory, American Samoa, that held 2024 presidential primaries on March 5. Plenty of electoral college delegates were up for grabs — though not enough for anyone to secure that sought-after presidential nomination.

Nearly 100 delegates were at stake for Democratic candidates and 48 for Republicans. The six Republican candidates and three Democratic ones are all hoping to bring in the largest pool of electors.

Stay with 8News as results come in on our live election page, which will update frequently throughout the night with voter tallies from the Associated Press.
