RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Energy will receive over $156 million in federal funding as part of the “Solar for All” program, from which around 50% of the Commonwealth’s households will be eligible to benefit.
According to the department, funding will be available for the next five years, starting in 2025 for Virginians interested in residential rooftop or shared solar programs.
Funding will focus on low-income residents and residents of communities that are designated as underserved, but developers can submit proposals for larger projects such as solar panels for community housing.
“Adding more residential solar is essential to our all of the above approach for clean and affordable energy in Virginia.” said Glenn Davis, the department’s director. “Virginia also recognizes the significant economic development and job growth opportunities across the Commonwealth that will accompany this growth in residential solar and welcomes new investment by the solar industry.”
Planning for the distribution of the funds will take place during the first year of the program, more details will be available on the department’s website as they become available.
