Congress veteran AK Antony hopes for son Anil’s defeat in Lok Sabha polls

Staying loyal to his party, Congress leader AK Antony said that his son, Anil Antony, contesting from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat for BJP should not win the upcoming General Elections.

Addressing a press conference, Antony said that his son’s party should lose, and his rival, the Congress candidate in the south Kerala constituency, Anto Antony, should win. He also termed the act of children of Congress leaders joining the BJP as “wrong.”

“BJP should lose there and Congress should win in Pathanamthitta. Anto Antony (Congress candidate) will win. Congress is my religion,” stated Congress leader.

“The Congress is my religion”, Antony said, reacting to repeated queries about his son’s politics.

Congress leader AK Antony says, “…Congress party and Rahul Gandhi are continuously fighting against Modi, BJP, RSS… I don’t think the people of Kerala will take CM’s (Pinarayi Vijayan) allegations seriously…INDIA bloc is moving forward every day and BJP is going down. I think it’s a chance for us to form the government.”

Anil Antony joined the BJP in 2023. The departure of Anil from the grand old party began with a tweet where he criticized the BBC for its controversial documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister. Anil said that placing the views of the British broadcaster over Indian institutions would undermine the country’s sovereignty. For siding with PM Modi, Anil was criticised by the state Congress leaders and soon resigned from his posts in KPCC Digital Media and AICC Social Media and Digital Communications Cell. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 16, announced that the polls for the 18th Lok Sabha election will be held in Kerala on 26 April. While the polls will be held in seven phases across India, voting in Kerala will held in the second phase.
