Healthcare: Bill Gates lauds India’s contribution

In a blog post, Bill Gates applauded India’s pivotal role in global health initiatives. As the largest producer of vaccines worldwide, accounting for over 60 percent of those distributed by Gavi, India has contributed to vaccinating more than 1 billion children in economically disadvantaged countries, he said. Through pioneering efforts by Indian companies, high-quality medications and vaccines have been developed at affordable prices, addressing critical health issues such as HIV/AIDS and providing solutions for diseases like rotavirus, pneumococcal pneumonia, and COVID, he said.

The Indian government has facilitated extensive vaccine distribution, both domestically and internationally, including to low- and middle-income nations, he said, adding that thanks to India’s contributions, developing nations now gain access to essential medicines and vaccines more rapidly than before, marking a significant advancement in global health.
