The Election Commission of India has deferred elections to Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat in Jammu and Kashmir to May 25, citing logistical issues due to adverse weather conditions. The election was earlier scheduled to be held on May 7. There are no changes in any part of the schedule, officials have said.
ECI in a notification said it had received representations from various political parties of the Union Territory for shifting Anantnag-Rajour’s polling date due to various logistical, communication and natural barriers of connectivity. The notification added these concerns were turning out as hindrance in campaigning, which amounted to lack of fair opportunities for candidates in the constituency.
