Pastor Keion Henderson Addresses The Viral Moment

On Monday, May 7, Pastor Henderson and his wife Shaunie appeared as guests on ‘The Tamron Hall Show.’ On the same day, a promotional clip of their appearance was shared via the show’s official Instagram account.

In the clip, Hall asked Pastor Henderson to explain what happened in the viral video of him silencing a congregant.

In response, Pastor Henderson explained that it’s been a “four-year battle” with the congregant.

“I’ve already talked to her personally. I had already had ushers go up to her… I’ve had everything [done],” he said. “So she did it publicly after being asked not to.”

At that point, Hall asked Pastor Henderson if the woman was crying or making an “emotional wail.”

“As a pastor, I know the difference between disturbance and worship,” he said, before seemingly defending his recent actions. “And what people have to understand is that everytime you hear a noise in church, it isn’t worship. And so there has to be order.”

Pastor Henderson ultimately explained that he “brought order to the room so people could hear God and not her.”

Before concluding on the topic, the pastor explained that he would do it again if he needed to.

Social Media Weighs In

Social media users reacted to Pastor Henderson’s defense of his actions in The Shade Room’s comment section. Many appeared to agree with his intution regarding the congregant’s intentions.

Instagram user @neski_juicegurl wrote, You see how she got quiet after she told him, I’ve been in church and ppl who are really in worship do not instantly be quiet like that , you have too calm them so like he said he knows the difference between disturbance and worship 💯”

While Instagram user @altonkiing added,And people jumped down my throat for saying he discerned something was off. People lack discernment and don’t want accountability… Y’all want a church where pastors dont correct anything and lets you do whatever you want with no accountability. So when a pastor brings correction, now you big mad?”

Instagram user @kso_special wrote, “‘As a Pastor I know the difference between disturbance and worship’ A WORD”

While Instagram user @keekeemarie added, I’m with him. She wouldn’t have hushed so quickly if it were sincere. Holy Ghost can’t be hushed! She needed to quit it!”

Instagram user @bluecentric wrote, I’m on his side on this. Sis was being manipulative and willfully defiant during a moment of worship and surrender and that is not about God… 😒”

However, some users shared alternative perspectives.

Instagram user @i.am.j.hill wrote, I’m confused…if she’s been doing this for FOUR years..and been counseled and rebuked, why is she still on the platform if you tired of outbursts?! Lol! There is liability on both parties as a leader and member. Going back to my corner 🤐🤣”

While Instagram user @rejohan added, If she does this regularly why have her on the pulpit? If she’s a member why humiliate her? Why do a whole press run about it to further embarrass her [and] ask a person in your staff to quiet her down? Why you snapped your fingers at her? Let’s be fr here!”

Instagram user @cynnalloyd wrote, …um…if she does this regularly, why is she invited on stage? 👀”

Here’s What Initially Went Down

As The Shade Room previously reported, the clip of Pastor Henderson’s recent sermon went viral earlier this week. In the clip, he was seen leading a praise and worship session with his choir.

However, as he began to sing, he was interrupted by what appeared to be loud screams from a woman.

The clip then shows him walking over to one of the female choir members and telling her to “silence” herself “in the name of Jesus.”

After the clip went viral, it received mixed reactions, per The Shade Room. Some social media users believed the pastor was wrong to hush the woman. Meanwhile, others seemingly agreed with him, finding the woman’s outbursts disturbing.

Furthermore, as social media users shared conflicting views, alleged congregants of Pastor Henderson’s church chimed in to back up his claims of the woman being a long-time disturbance.
