Karnataka sex tapes case: CBI likely to issue blue collar notice against Prajwal Revanna

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is expected to issue a blue-corner notice against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna to get him to face the ongoing investigations into his alleged abuse of women and leaks of explicit videos. Blue collar notice authorises Interpol to collect information about a person’s identity, location or activities related to a criminal investigation.

Participating in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday to review the progress made in the investigations, the special investigation team (SIT) officials informed him about the possibility of the federal investigating agency issuing a blue-collar notice. Such a notice will help the SIT speed up investigations, they said. The SIT has already issued a look out notice for Revanna Jr.

The police officers also told the CM that they would arrest Revanna Jr as soon as he arrived in any of the Indian airports.

Siddaramaiah, who held the meeting within hours after he got a letter from AICC leader Rahul Gandhi seeking swift action against the perpetrators of the alleged crime, asked the SIT to arrest the sitting MP and others involved in the case at the earliest.

The government, he told officials, would not tolerate any delay or negligence in the case.

“We are committed to providing all necessary assistance (to victims) to ensure a fair process,” Siddaramaiah said in a post on X, responding to Gandhi’s letter. “The recent case involving Prajwal Revanna has deeply disturbed the nation. Upholding justice for the victims is crucial for maintaining faith in our legal system,” he said, acknowledging Gandhi’s letter calling for support to victims. In his letter, the AICC leader said, “The rape of our mothers and sisters warrants the strictest possible punishment,” and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of campaigning for Revanna Jr in Hassan despite the top BJP leadership coming to know of the candidate’s antecedents in December, last year. The Union Government, he said, wilfully allowed him to flee India to derail any meaningful investigation. BJP State President BY Vijayendra, however, denied having received any letter from anyone about the alleged abuse of women by the MP.

Revanna Jr is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. He is seeking re-election from Hassan which went to polls on April 26.

In a related development, a special court for people’s representatives in Bengaluru rejected a petition seeking anticipatory bail by JDS MLA HD Revanna in connection with an alleged abduction of a victim from her house in KR Nagar. The police rescued her on Saturday from a farm house in Hunsur in Mysuru district. The police have already arrested Satish Babanna in connection with the alleged abduction.

This followed an FIR in KR Nagar Police station in Mysuru district on a complaint from a local resident who accused Revanna and Babanna of kidnapping his mother who worked in the MLA’s house as a help six years ago.
