How to register for Char Dham Yatra and how to reach Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri


Registrations for the Char Dham Yatra have been opened. Among the four dhams, Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath will open on May 10 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, while the Badrinath shrine will open on May 12.

Gangotri Dham will open its doors at exactly 12:25 pm local time. Shri Badrinath Dham will open on May 12 at 6 am. The doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham will open starting from May 10 at 7 am.

The high-altitude shrines are closed for approximately six months each year. They open during the summer months (April or May) and close as winter begins (October or November).

It is believed that it is advisable to finish the Char Dham Yatra by following a clockwise direction. Therefore, the journey begins at Yamunotri, continues to Gangotri, then to Kedarnath, and ultimately concludes at Badrinath.

The journey can be completed by road or by air (helicopter services are available). Some devotees also undertake a Do Dham Yatra or a pilgrimage to two shrines, Kedarnath and Badrinath, as mentioned on the Uttarakhand tourism official website.

How can one register for the Char Dham Yatra?To participate in the Char Dham Yatra, registration is required at the registration center. Alternatively, registration can be done through the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app, which is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Registration is also possible through Whatsapp. For that send a message “Yatra” to +91 8394833833 to initiate the registration process.Please note that registration has been mandatory since 2014. Every devotee is provided with a QR code. By registering, you will have access to attractions and other services such as pooja booking, helicopter service, and information on darshan timings. How to reach Kedarnath?
You can reach Kedarnath by taking Yatra Buses from Rishikesh or Haridwar. Additionally, taxi services are available from Haridwar and Rishikesh to Gaurikund, which is the final road stop before Kedarnath. Once at Gaurikund, you must embark on the 17-km uphill trek that will take you to Kedarnath Dham. You can also easily access pony, doli (palanquin), and helicopter shuttle services.

How to reach Badrinath?

Buses and taxis are easily available from Rishikesh and Haridwar. Badrinath is approximately 300 km away from Rishikesh and 320 km away from Haridwar.

How to reach Yamunotri?
To reach Yamunotri, the initial destination in the Char Dham pilgrimage, one must travel to Janki Chatti, approximately 220 km away by road from Rishikesh. Taxis and buses are readily accessible. From this point, embark on the 5-km uphill journey to Yamunotri Dham. Pony and doli services are offered.

How to reach Gangotri?
The town of Gangotri has good road connectivity. The distance from Rishikesh to Gangotri is approximately 270 km, and travelers can easily book buses or taxis from Rishikesh and Haridwar.
