Devaraje Gowda: Karnataka BJP neta who exposed Revanna is now accused in rape case


The Karnataka Police has arrested G Devaraje Gowda in a case of alleged molestation and rape. An FIR was filed against Gowda based on a complaint by a 36-year-old woman from Hassan district. She accused him of molesting and raping her under the guise of assisting her in selling her property.

A case of molestation was filed against Gowda on April 1. On Friday, the woman went to the police again and claimed that she was also a victim of rape by him. On Saturday, he was taken to Holenarasipura, where the incident allegedly occurred, for questioning.

Who is Devaraje Gowda?
Gowda is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and also works as an advocate. Gowda ran for the 2023 assembly election as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party but was not successful. He was defeated by JD(S) MLA and former minister H D Revanna.

Devaraje Gowda has been accused of leaking the videos, but he has firmly denied the allegations.

Earlier on May 6, Devaraje Gowda had come out against the ruling Congress government in Karnataka accusing it of “trying to frame BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘ in Prajwal Revanna’s case.Devaraje Gowda also claimed that the Karnataka government is attempting to suppress evidence and manipulate the investigation, describing the SIT as “remote-controlled’ by the state government.The case against Devaraje Gowda
The police arrested Gowda after an FIR was lodged against the BJP leader for sexual harassment in Holenarasipura town of Hassan district, Karnataka.Gowda has been charged with various offenses under different sections of the law. These offenses include assault or criminal force towards a woman with the intention to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment, voyeurism, house trespass, intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and criminal intimidation.

The victim alleged in her complaint that she was physically harassed and threatened by Devaraje Gowda and others.

The police FIR was filed on April 1 for the offence that occurred on February 4 at the victim’s residence in Holenarasipura town of Hassan. Apart from Deveraje Gowda, three other individuals have been named in the FIR related to the case.

Prajwal Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, are facing a probe by a Special Investigative Team (SIT), constituted by the Karnataka government, over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household.

HD Revanna has been sent to judicial custody until May 14 in a kidnapping case linked to the “obscene video case,” while Prajwal Revanna is in another country. He was apprehended by the special investigation team (SIT) on May 4 in relation to a suspected kidnapping case filed against him at KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru.
