UAE weather: WFH, online schooling announced amid heavy rain forecast


With heavy rains also were expected over Dubai and other regions in United Arab Emirates and other regions of the Arabian Peninsula, the Dubai authorries have directed that work be done remotely on Tuesday, April 16, for employees of the Dubai government and private schools in Dubai. Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Oman on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, killing at least 17 people as rescuers searched for survivors, authorities said on Monday. Heavy rainfall often causes flash flooding, drawing the curious from their homes to nearby dry riverbeds, known in Arabic as “wadi.” In flooding, they can quickly fill and wash away people and vehicles.

The decision includes employees of all government agencies in the Emirate of Dubai, with the exception of jobs that require attendance at the workplace. The concerned authorities in Dubai confirmed their readiness and full readiness to deal with the expected weather conditions and the fluctuations accompanying them, and also confirmed taking all proactive measures to follow up and evaluate weather conditions, to ensure public safety is maintained.

Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police and head of the local emergency, crisis and disaster team in the emirate, confirmed that all precautionary measures have been taken by the concerned authorities to optimally deal with the weather condition expected in the country in general and in Ras Al Khaimah.

Al Nuaimi directed the presence of representatives of government departments and institutions in the emirate to discuss the preparations and readiness of the teams for the weather situation expected in the country in general and Ras Al Khaimah in particular.

The local Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah has decided to activate the distance learning system in all private schools and higher education institutions in the emirate on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 16 & 17). The team has also called off all sporting activities and competitions organised by the Sharjah Sports Council in the emirate due to the prevailing weather conditions in the country.The decision is aimed at maintaining the safety of students and teaching staff in the emirate and raising the state of alert and readiness to deal with any adverse weather conditions. The authorities are constantly monitoring the weather situation and has taken all measures to ensure the provision of essential services in the Emirate.The authorities underscored the importance of exercising caution while driving during rains and unstable weather conditions, and staying away from valleys and mountainous areas that are prone to flooding. The authorities cautioned the public against going to the sea and visiting mountains and valleys in the next few days.
