MVA seat sharing: Maharashtra Lok Sabha: MVA announces seat sharing plan, Congress to contest 17 seats, Sena (UBT) 21, NCP (SP) 10

The Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition on Tuesday announced its seat sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Congress will contest 17 seats while Shiv Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) will fight 21 and 10 seats each.

The seat sharing plan was announced by NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and state Congress president Nana Patole.

The UBT faction of Shiv Sena will contest from the contentious Sangli seat that Congress wanted. Wrestler Chandrahar Patil is Sena (UBT)’s candidate from Sangli.

“We also gave Ramtek and Amravati seats to the Congress. As far as Sangli is concerned, our workers from western Maharashtra wanted to contest the seat. So we decided to exchange the Kolhapur seat with Congress. The Sena announced its candidate after seat-sharing deliberations at a higher level,” Sanjay Raut had said earlier. “Whatever the sentiments of Congress workers, it will calm down in a couple of days.”

The Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP will contest Bhiwandi constituency.

Lok Sabha polls for Maharashtra’s 48 seats will be held in five phases between April 19 and May 20 and votes will be counted on June 4.
