arvind kejriwal: Sanjay Singh gets bail. What’s next for Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders? Here is the current status of liquor case

In a big relief for AAP, the Supreme Court granted bail to Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The decision came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not oppose his release. While Singh’s bail marks a notable development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and AAP communications head Vijay Nair remain in judicial custody.

Current Status of Proceedings Against AAP Leaders in Liquor Case

The case against AAP leaders stems from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2022, alleging irregularities in the framing and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy of 2021-22. The ED asserted that AAP leaders received kickbacks from liquor manufacturers through this policy, some of which were purportedly utilized for the State Assembly elections in Goa in 2022.

The accused AAP leaders have consistently denied these allegations, labeling them as politically motivated attacks by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Six prosecution complaints, including one main and five supplementary, have been filed by the ED since 2022, naming a total of 32 individuals as accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Among those arrested in connection with the case are not only AAP leaders Kejriwal, Sisodia, Singh, and Nair but also Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha.

Serious Allegations against AAP Leaders

The ED has leveled serious allegations against AAP leaders, particularly focusing on Arvind Kejriwal. The agency has asserted his involvement in the alleged conspiracy and utilisation of the proceeds of crime. Kejriwal’s role in the utilization of funds for the Goa elections has also come under scrutiny.

Similarly, Manish Sisodia has faced accusations related to modifying policy terms favoring certain companies. Despite several attempts for bail, his petitions have been rejected, and his case is currently being argued before the trial court.

Vijay Nair, described as the “kingpin” by the ED, has been accused of receiving kickbacks on behalf of AAP from the liquor industry. Though granted bail in the CBI case, he remains in custody following his arrest by the ED.

Sanjay Singh out, What’s next for AAP?

With Sanjay Singh’s release on bail, attention now shifts to the pending bail pleas of Sisodia and Kavitha. Additionally, Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest is set for final disposal on April 3.The outcomes of these legal proceedings hold significant implications, especially with the looming Lok Sabha elections. Whether these AAP leaders will secure relief from the courts remains uncertain, as the legal battle intensifies amidst the political landscape.
