The regional party viewed her remarks seriously, while refusing to acknowledge her statement, retracting her comments and seeking forgiveness of Tamil people.
While attacking Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Tuesday, the BJP leader who is contesting from Bengaluru North, said in a post on X: “FYI, the Rameshwaram bomber was trained in Krishnagiri forests under your nose.”
The DMK’s action followed Stalin’s demand for legal action against the MoS “for causing threat to peace, harmony, and national unity. From the Prime Minister to the cadre, everyone in the BJP should stop engaging in this dirty divisive politics at once.” The TN chief minister urged the ECI to take note of this hate speech and initiate stringent action.
Karandlaje’s comments came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned for the party candidates at Salem in Tamil Nadu. In a lengthy complaint against her to the ECI, the DMK said her remarks sought to create hostility between the people of two states, and hence, violated the model code of conduct.
Earlier, the TN chief minister condemned her statement. One must either be an NIA official or closely linked to the Rameshwaram Café blast case to make such claims. “Clearly, she lacks the authority for such assertions. Tamilians and Kannadigas alike will reject this divisive rhetoric of BJP,” he posted on X.Soon after her public comments snowballed into an embarrassing controversy for the BJP in Tamil Nadu, Karandlaje apologized, saying her words were meant to shine light, not cast shadows. “Yet I see that my remarks brought pain to some – and for that, I apologize,” she posted on X. The BJP leader said her comments targeted those who got trained in the Krishnagiri forest.
