Traditionally a Congress stronghold, the Secunderabad seat has seen a recent shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party with incumbent G Kishan Reddy looking to keep his seat for a second term, while the saffron party looks to consolidate its hold in the southern state.

One of 17 seats in Telangana, the Hyderabad constituency is set to see a battle between the BJP and the BRS, with the Congress looking less likely to bother either party.

In 2019, the elections for the Secunderabad seat were held on April 11. With the Election Commission set to announce dates for the general polls soon, there is a high level of anticipation within party workers and the local populace. The poll body is set to announce the dates on March 16.

The Election Commission is set to announce the dates for the results of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, with a likely timeframe of April-May. In 2019, the results for the general elections were announced on May 23.

Secunderabad Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Candidates
So far, only the BJP has announced its candidate for the Secunderabad seat, with incumbent Kishan Reddy fighting to retain his seat. The other major names – the BRS and the Congress – are yet to announce a candidate for the seat.

Five years ago, in 2019, the Secunderabad seat was won by G Kishan Reddy, with a 60,000 vote margin. The BJP leader bagged 42% of the 9,15,263 votes cast, continuing the BJP’s presence in the seat. Reddy’s closest challenger was the BRS’ Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav, who got 35.2% of the vote. In 2014, the seat was also won by the BJP, but by Bandaru Dattatreya who secured 43.66% of the vote, with a 2.5 lakh vote margin, while his closest contender Anjan Kumar Yadav managed to grab only 18.28% of the 10,03,769 votes cast.
