Mamata Banerjee: Mamata Banerjee suffers head injury; undergoes treatment at SSKM hospital


West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has received a serious injury on her forehead and nose on Thursday evening, Trinamool sources said.

She has been taken to Woodburn ward of public-run SSKM hospital after she fell at home after returning from a political programme in Gariahat, Trinamool sources told ET. However, more details are awaited.

“Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers,” AITC official X Handle said. She reportedly received the injury at around 7PM.

“The incident took place at home. There was lot of bleeding. She is conscious. Currently the wound is being stitched,” Mamata Banerjee’s brother Kartick Banerjee said.

“The bleeding has stopped. She might undergo further tests. A five-six member medical board has been formed for her treatment, sources said.

Abhishek Banerjee got her admitted to hospital,” AITC sources said.She is undergoing MRI and CT-scan to find out the reason for her fall, hospital sources said. Expert doctors are being brought from a private hospital. She is conscious and may return home after treatment, sources said.Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said in X Handle, “Shocked to see this. Pray for ur speedy recovery Didi. God bless u.”

“Shocked and deeply concerned about the road accident involving Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal @MamataOfficial didi. My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I’m wishing her a speedy recovery,” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wished her speedy recovery.

State minister Firhad Hakim, Sobhondeb Chattoapdhyay and other ministers rushed to the hospital.

Trinamool National Spokesperson Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said, “Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankar has inquired about the health of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms Mamata Banerjee, expressing his deep anguish and wishing speedy recovery.”

BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar said, “Wishing CM @MamataOfficial a speedy recovery. Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health…”
