Gypsy Rose Clarifies & Defends Her Comments About Dee Dee Blanchard

According to TMZ, Rose spoke with the outlet for an interview published on Monday, May 13. The 32-year-old explained that her recent Mother’s Day tribute video posted via TikTok was intended to honor her mother and other maternal figures in her life.

However, instead of positive reactions, Rose has reportedly received hateful responses and “major threats on her safety.”

According to Rose, some social media users apparently misinterpreted her comments about hoping her late mom is proud of her accomplishments.

“When I said that I hope my mom is proud of me, people are thinking I meant she would be proud of the murder. That is obviously not what I meant,” she told the outlet. “I meant she would be proud of me in heaven, like getting my GED, moving towards independence and learning how to cook, clean, having my own bank account etc.”

TMZ shared a video showing direct messages and comments Rose apparently received via Instagram, which violates community guidelines. Meanwhile, Rose is standing firm on her Mother’s Day tribute.

“Because of what happened with my mom, that shouldn’t make me exempt from wishing the other women in my life a Happy Mother’s Day… I didn’t say this because of my balls and audacity, I did this message because I have women in my life that are supportive,” she explained.

Before concluding her defense, Rose shared a few final thoughts about her mother and the “guilt and regret” she experiences.

“I remember the good she had in her and the good times,” she said. “I don’t think about the abuse or murder. I miss her and have a lot of guilt and regret.”

Here’s What Gypsy Initially Said About Her Late Mom

As The Shade Room previously reported, Gypsy posted her Mother’s Day tribute to Dee Dee Blanchard and the other women in her life on Sunday, May 12. Her TikTok video, which she disabled from receiving comments, was about eight minutes and thirty seconds long. However, Rose used about half of that time to speak about her late mother.

In the clip, Rose explained that she thinks about the “good” times with her mother rather than what Blanchard “did” to her. However, she doesn’t believe  Blanchard was a “good person.”

Rose explained that she’s been working on forgiveness for years and hopes that her mother is in heaven and is proud of her.

“I’ve been working for years on forgiveness, and I hope that she is in heaven. I hope that, to some degree, I make her proud… in heaven, they say that all mental and physical inflictions are gone, right? God makes you perfect in heaven. So,” Rose continued. “If you take away the mental inflictions that my mother had, then I think what’s left is a good person.”

Ultimately, Rose briefly touched on having many “regrets” before sharing that she would remember the good was inside of her mother, “whether that be extremely deep or not.”

A Brief Recap Of Dee Dee Blanchard’s Passing & Her Daughter’s Incarceration

Although Rose’s tribute couldn’t garner comments on TikTok, social media users took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their reactions. Many appeared to find Rose’s tribute to her late mother distasteful.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Rose was released from prison in December 2023 after serving 85% of a ten-year sentence for orchestrating the 2015 murder of her mother.

According to Fox 35 Orlando, Rose alleged that Blanchard “forced her to pretend for years” that she was suffering from numerous diseases. The outlet notes that Blanchard allegedly “kept her daughter prisoner, forcing her to use a wheelchair and feeding tube.” However, Rose was “perfectly healthy,” and her mother reportedly experienced Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

The outlet notes that the syndrome is a “psychological disorder” where parents or caregivers “seek sympathy through the exaggerated or made-up illnesses of their children.”

Ultimately, Rose was accused and pled guilty to enlisting her ex-boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, to kill her mother.
