Emily Beecham and Clémence Poésy have joined the cast of “King and Conqueror,” a period drama series about the Battle of Hastings. James Norton plays Harold of Wessex, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau portrays William of Normandy.
Beecham plays Edith Swanneck, Harold Godwinson’s wife, who married him for love and protection but finds herself in a challenging position as Harold fights for the English crown. Poésy portrays Matilda, William of Normandy’s wife, who learns to be ruthless in the royal court to succeed.

The BBC has acquired the broadcasting rights for “King and Conqueror” in the U.K., where it will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Paramount Global Content Distribution will handle distribution outside the U.K.
Plot
“King and Conqueror” is a story of power struggles and family dynasties, culminating in the Battle of Hastings. Harold and William, originally allies, are forced into a war for the British throne, with far-reaching consequences for England and Europe.
Episode Count, Production Team
The series, consisting of eight episodes, is written by Michael Robert Johnson and produced by several production companies, including Rabbit Track Pictures and CBS Studios. Norton and Coster-Waldau also serve as executive producers.Kitty Kaletsky, Baltasar Kormákur, Robert Taylor, and others are also executive producers on the series. Kormákur will direct the premiere episode, while Coster-Waldau will direct an episode as well.
