Capital One Venture, Spark Cards double down on vacation rentals

Capital One Venture and Spark Miles cardholders just got another tool in their travel redemption toolbox: Exclusive vacation rental perks. Starting Feb. 27, 2024, Capital One Travel has added vacation rentals to their Premier and Lifestyle property portfolios, with the same slate of benefits and perks offered to those who booked a hotel through either program.

More than 30 properties are currently available, with more slated to come in 2024, and include popular vacation destinations like Breckinridge, Colo., the Berkshires, Mass., and Hilton Head, SC. 

Vacation rentals through Capital One Travel’s Premier Collection are available to those with a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Venture X Business card. Vacation rentals through Capital One Travel’s Lifestyle Collection are available to cardholders with a Venture X, Venture X Business, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, or Capital One Spark Miles for Business cards.

Eligible cardholders can receive the following benefits when they book a vacation rental through Capital One Travel:

• Access to professionally-managed properties: Unlike Airbnbs which can require some work on the part of the renter to manage, the vacation rental properties in the Premier and Lifestyle collections are managed by companies including AvantStay and Boutiq, which means you can expect professional service similar to what you’d find in a hotel.
• 5X rewards on bookings: Like all travel booked through Capital One Travel, you can earn big rewards on a stay booked through the issuer. All Premier and Lifestyle vacation home bookings will earn 5X per dollar spent.
• Experience credits: Premier collection bookings are eligible for a $100 credit and Lifestyle collection bookings are eligible for a $50 credit. You can use the credits towards things like an in-home chef meal, pre-arrival groceries, a mid-stay property cleaning, and more.
• Other elite benefits: Similar to what you might get with hotel elite status, vacation rental bookings in both the Premier or Lifestyle collections come with complimentary Wi-Fi and early check-in and check-out when available.

Cardholders could already use Capital One miles from their Venture or Spark cards to book or redeem for Airbnb vacation rental stays. And when Capital One Travel launched their Premier and Lifestyle hotel collections, it paved the way for eligible cardholders to book one of the properties and receive benefits including those now also available through the new vacation rentals partnership. 

With the new option to book professionally managed vacation rentals, it opens up plenty of new opportunities to use your rewards from a Capital One card to book a vacation you may not normally have done through the issuer. Although it’s worth noting that hotels and resorts in the Premier collection earn 10X on bookings, while Premier collection vacation rentals earn 5X. Still, the addition of these options is a win-win for consumers who prefer to have the homestyle amenities they can’t always get with a hotel stay.
