Lok Sabha elections: Congress will give away even your Mangal Sutra to Muslims: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck a controversial note during his election campaign on Sunday when he alleged that if Congress comes to power it will implement its manifesto that promises equitable distribution of wealth and alleged this will mean taking away even the Mangal Sutra of women and giving away their gold to Muslims. He described Muslims as “iillegal immigrants” who produce many children and charged that his predecessor Manmohan Singh had maintained they have the first right to our resources.
Modi addressed BJP election rallies in Jalore and Banswara in Rajasthan on Sunday where he made a scathing attack on the “Shahi Parivar (royal family)” of the Congress. He charged that Congress is spreading false rumours about threat to democracy, Constitution and reservations if BJP comes to power for a third term.

“Those who have left the Congress say the party is no longer what it used to be. It has gone into the hands of the urban naxals and is in the clutches of the Left forces…. Look at the manifesto of the Congress. What it has said is worrying. They have said if Congress forms government, everybody’s property will be probed, their jewellery, gold and silver will be distributed equally among the people,” Modi said in Banswara.

While he has made the charge of the Congress manifesto propagating communism rule, he alleged on Sunday that the wealth of the middle class and even the “silver of tribals” will be snatched and given away to Muslims.

“They want to snatch the gold of the women and distribute it among the people. When Congress was in power, Manmohan Singh had said the first right over our resources is that of Muslims. They will not spare even your Mangal Sutra. They will take your money and give it to those who have more children. To the illegal immigrants… They will distribute them to Muslims who they said have the first right to resources. They will go to the extent where they will not spare even your Mangal Sutra,” Modi said. The prime minister has in the past made polarising remarks during election campaigns, including his “Shamshan-Kabristan” statement on appeasement of minorities by some parties, and how members of a particular minority are recognisable by their dress. He tried to clear the air on the buzz that if BJP gets an overwhelming majority, it will re-write the Constitution and do away with reservations.“BJP is committed to welfare of the poor and works with full sincerity towards it. But in the Congress shop only fear, hunger and corruption are available. Congress has always tried to scare the Dalits, Adivasis, minorities. These days they are spreading all kinds of fears about democracy, the Constitution, and reservations. But Congress does not understand that Bharat has crossed all boundaries of fear,” the prime minister said.

He remarked sarcastically that Congress has been reduced to such a bad state that the “royal family” of the party will not vote for the party as it is not putting up candidates in the seats where their votes are registered.

“So many elections have been held since Independence, but this will be the first time that the Shahi Parivar of Congress in Delhi will not vote for Congress. If the Shahi Parivar will not vote for Congress, what right do they have to ask for your vote? Congress is not contesting the elections (in the constituency) where they live. This is the first time that Congress is in such a poor state where its Shahi Parivar will not vote for Congress. Can you then trust the Congress?” he said.
