As the deadline to send the 15-member squad to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the forthcoming Men’s T20 World Cup approaches, the chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah have arrived at the ITC Narmada Hotel in Ahmedabad.
The meeting of the selection committee is underway and an announcement may be expected soon as all teams have to submit their 15-player squad till May 1.

The marquee event is all set to begin on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

While most positions in the squad are straightforward, the focus remains on Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness.

If Pandya is included, it leaves room for only one among Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh. KL Rahul seems to have secured his place, distancing himself from competitor Sanju Samson, favored by the current coaching setup led by Rahul Dravid.Expectations lean towards conservative selections, with Mumbai Indians’ Tilak Varma emerging as a potential wildcard option, given his left-handed batting flair and off-spin bowling ability. However, uncertainties loom over the selection of the third spinner, with Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi vying for the spot.

As per ESPNcricinfo reports, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson appears to be the frontrunner for India’s primary wicketkeeper-batter position in the tournament. However, competition for this role includes the likes of Rishabh Pant, who returned to competitive cricket in this IPL season following a car accident in 2022, KL Rahul leading the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Ishan Kishan from the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Meanwhile, the top batting order seems fairly settled, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to open, followed by Virat Kohli at number three and the top-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav at number four.
