Virat Kohli reveals the ‘Sita and Geeta’ of Indian cricket team: ‘These guys cannot stay alone’

Young Indian cricket sensations Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill share a deep friendship both on and off the field, forming an inseparable bond during their time with Team India, particularly during extended tours. This was revealed by their senior colleague Virat Kohli, during an event, who affectionately describes them as “Sita aur Geeta,” emphasizing their constant companionship during team activities and discussions.

Kohli’s insights were shared during an event, shedding light on the camaraderie between Kishan and Gill, who have become fixtures in the Indian cricket team across various formats in recent years.

“Can’t say much but these guys can’t stay alone during tours. If we got out for food, they will come together. During discussions as well, they are always together. I haven’t seen them alone. They are great friends,” Kohli said during a Puma event.

Currently, both players are actively participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Gill, leading the Gujarat Titans after the departure of Hardik Pandya, showcased his leadership with a stellar performance, guiding his team to victory against the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday with a remarkable score of 72 runs. This follows a series of impressive performances, including back-to-back half-centuries, showcasing his prowess on the field.

Gill has so far scored 255 runs in 6 matches of IPL season 2024 at an average of 51.

On the other hand, Kishan, representing the Mumbai Indians, has faced some challenges this season, struggling to find his form with just 92 runs in four matches. Additionally, his absence from domestic cricket led to his exclusion from the BCCI central contracts list, adding pressure on him to deliver noteworthy performances to reclaim his spot in the national squad, especially with the T20 World Cup looming ahead.Meanwhile, Kohli has been leading by example in the IPL, emerging as the top run-scorer of the season with an outstanding century to his credit. Despite his individual brilliance, his team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has faced setbacks, winning only one of their first five matches and currently languishing near the bottom of the points table.

Shubman Gill, the 24-year-old opening batsman hailing from Punjab, burst into the spotlight for his significant contributions to India’s U19 World Cup victory in 2018. Following his acquisition by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018, Gill made valuable contributions in his debut and subsequent seasons, prompting the KKR management to retain him. He made his ODI debut for India in 2019 and his Test debut in 2020, with high expectations for his future in cricket. Despite being released by KKR ahead of the 2022 TATA IPL Auction, Gill was swiftly picked up by the Gujarat Titans, who later elevated him as captain for the 2024 IPL season.
