The Young and the Restless is regarded as one of the most iconic soap operas on American television, and it has had a strong and diverse cast list over the years. In soap operas, it is commonplace for actors to leave roles after a few years, and for prominent characters to be recast over time, with some being portrayed by multiple different actors, even into adulthood. One The Young and the Restless character in particular will soon be recast, due to the actor leaving the role for a new show.
Shows will often recast roles if an actor leaves, or if the character is killed off but the writers want to bring them back years down the line. For instance, Chance Chancellor has been a prominent part of The Young and the Restless since 1988, with Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley once portraying the role. And now, the character could be set for a big storyline shakeup following the departure of the actor who most recently played him.
Chance Chancellor Needs To Be Recast In Young & The Restless Now
The Character Will Require A New Face
Per Soap Opera News, Conner Floyd, who has played the role of Chance since 2021, has departed the show, moving over to play Chad DiMeri in rival NBC soap Days of Our Lives. He will take over the role of Chad from the departed Billy Flynn and become the third actor to play Chad, although he will not make his screen debut until April 2026. This leaves the role of Chance vacant, and it is unclear right now who will be cast to play him next.
Interestingly, Flynn will move the other way, joining the cast of The Young and the Restless.
Interestingly, Flynn will move the other way, joining the cast of The Young and the Restless, but, due to Days of Our Lives’ super-advanced shooting schedule, he will actually appear in both soaps at the same time. However, Flynn is confirmed to be playing the character of Cane Ashby (the alter ego of the mysterious Aristotle Dumas), rather than Chance, which would have been a fun direct swap with Floyd.
A Recast Could Signal A Bigger Role For Chance In Y&R
It Could Be An Exciting Future For Chance
Floyd vacating the role of Chance could signal that the soap is planning on developing a bigger story for Chance in the near future. Floyd’s role on the CBS soap opera had been reduced to a recurring one, with much of the action and plot preoccupied with The Young and the Restless‘ Aristotle Dumas storyline, which has riveted viewers of late. But Chance could have a meatier role moving forward, especially with the identity of Aristotle now confirmed.

The Aristotle Dumas storyline will come to a head when his identity is finally revealed this week. Elsewhere, Tessa & Mariah hit a breaking point.
If Y&R is looking to recast Chance, it would suggest they have a strong arc planned for the character, and there are several directions they could take his story. In fact, Tuesday’s episode seemingly confirmed as much: Floyd reappeared as Chance in what will likely be one of his last batch of episodes. It would appear that Cane Ashby asked him to come to the estate for a reason: Chance is a cop and Cane is certain that in the next few days, someone is going to try to kill him. So, we at least know what role Chance will play in the immediate future, but the recast still indicates that his arc will not wrap up so quickly.
It Would Be Hard For Cane To Return To Genoa City Without Chance Being Involved In The Storyline
Chance Could Be Key To Cane’s Aristotle Storyline
The hint that Chance’s arc would go in this direction is right in Cane Ashby’s fake Aristotle Dumas name. The allusions to Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo suggest a revenge plot, and it would appear that Cane is well aware of it, which is why he has recruited Chance to the estate, not as a rival or former friend, but as a professional ally. Should they fail – and it seems likely they will, considering they only just recast Billy Flynn as the new face of Cane Ashby – then it seems likely that they will continue to try to take Cane out once everyone is back in Genoa City.

The Young and the Restless spoiled the reveal of the actor playing Aristotle Dumas earlier this week but a twist behind the twist saved it.
Much will depend on the actor cast as Chance, and what they can bring to the role. Still, even if the sudden plot twist of someone trying to kill Cane hadn’t been revealed, Cane’s story could hardly conclude without involving Chance, especially since Cane seems set on coming back to Genoa City. With Floyd wrapping up his time on the soap in the near future and a new actor stepping into the role, it’s a good chance for new plot threads to be created for the character moving forward in The Young and the Restless.
