‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’: Release date, episodes, plot, all you may like to know


The protagonists of ‘Star Trek‘ universe have primarily been older teens and young adults. In an attempt to expand its audience base for the franchise, the creators of the show will now focus on younger students. They will come out with a new show, ‘Starfleet Academy‘, which will have “a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism.” Produced by CBS Studios and with Alex Kurtzman & Noga Landau executive producing and co-show running, the series will also discover what it takes to become a Starfleet officer.

When will filming begin?

Talking to ‘Collider’, Kurtzman shared some details about the latest addition to the Star Trek family. He said he is getting ready to begin filming late this summer and is “halfway through the writers room now.” Kurtzman also confirmed that the first season of ‘Starfleet Academy’ will have 10 episodes. Taking a practical and realistic approach to the release of the show, he said it may not air until 2026.

What will happen in ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’?

Kurtzman also dropped some hints on the themes of ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.’ He claimed that it would eventually reinforce fans’ love for Starfleet. Kurtzman said the challenge is how to bring ‘Trek’ to a new generation of fans that have no experience with those shows. He further added it will be a show that the viewers may have a tremendous amount out of it if they know all of that canonical history.

He also said that the cadets will be under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, and they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ will premiere on Paramount+ on April 4. Its cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Emily Coutts, Mary Wiseman, and Oyin Oladejo.
